Builders are constantly seeking easier and better building products & installation methods. Changes in local codes and new product introductions challenge builders to erect and architects to design better buildings, offering more resistance to moisture and increased energy efficiency.
An essential attribute for sustainable building products, especially insulation, is the ability to function properly over its useful life without physical property performance degradation. In fact, good long-term insulation performance is needed to correctly design a building’s heating and air-conditioning systems. Thermo-Shield with its concrete facing protects and lengthens the life of the insulation board within it & subsequently the building. Other advantages include its ability to assist with moisture management, resisting both water absorption and freeze/thaw cycles. Properly installed Thermo-Shield can provide excellent moisture and insulating properties.
Extruded polystyrene (XPS) Insulation offers many benefits due to the way this product is manufactured. Energy-efficient, easy to install, lightweight, and recognizable in its blue, pink, or green colors.
Extruded polystyrene foam begins as a solid granule of polystyrene resin and the concrete facing, consisting of different sands, admixtures & proprietary blend. Under carefully controlled heat and pressure conditions, the plastic mixture is forced through a die into the desired shape. The rigid foam plastic is then trimmed to the final product dimensions and is usually recognized as boards.
Manufacturing continues when the insulation meets the cement. With a proprietary cement formula the insulation boards act as the mold surface during the manufacturing each fbre cement panel. After the cement is laid up the panel then cures for a minimum of eighteen hours before being cut to size.
When combined with the ultra high performance concrete face, this single product creates a continuous layer of thermal protection, moisture resistance and a tough, impact resistant shield of concrete. Its strong exterior shield, protects buildings from harsh environmental elements including vandalism.
The closed-cell structure of extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam promotes excellent long-term strength and durability being resistant to freeze-thaw. Due to its inherent physical properties, and the strength of the cementitious topping...there are no other materials available that can compare.
